Is it illegal to jump wakes or waves on my jet ski?

I know the other day i was reading something about how a guy fell off and that there is a $500 dollar fine for jumping "waves". does anyone know the full description of this law?

  1. most states have specific laws that vary but generally it is illegal to drive erratic and jump wakes of another boat or to come within 100 feet of the other boat unless you are overtaking that boat within the stated laws for that action. you cannot change your course to jump the boats wake if you are overtaking that boat.
